Our vans are stocked with almost all the electrical parts and components we need. What should I do in the case of a blackout?
If your neighbors are also having a blackout, then call PG&E (800-743-5000) and report the outage. Otherwise, give us a call immediately. Blackouts not can occur due to faulty wiring or blown fuses. After talking to you, if needed, we will come out and help to resolve the situation.
I have a new electrical appliance that needs to be on its own circuit breaker. Can you help with that?
At Allspark Electric we excel at electrical installations. We have the experience and knowledge necessary to successfully complete projects both large and small. Just give us a call to arrange a time for us to come and visit you.
    Do you install outdoor lighting?
We install outdoor lighting and landscaping lighting, for example to light stairs, and also security lighting for your house or business.
Why do my light bulbs burn out so often?
This is a common question for us, and the answer is pretty simple: low-quality, non-branded bulbs are more likely to burn out quickly. The use of wattages larger than the suggested rating for the appliance can also burn out bulbs rapidly. If you’re using high-quality bulbs of the correct wattage but still experience frequent burnouts, it might be due to power surges in your property’s electrical grid. If it seems to be happening all of the time, contact us and we will come out to see if we can resolve the issue.
Why can birds sit safely on power lines?
Birds sitting on a wire don’t touch the ground (or anything in contact with the ground), so electricity stays in the power line. But, if a bird touches a power line and equipment or other metal that is grounded, it gives electricity a path to the ground, and the bird can be shocked. In addition, if a bird were to touch two wires at once, it would create a circuit, meaning that electricity would flow through the bird and likely electrocute it.
What should I do if my circuit breakers have tripped?
First, disconnect any devices that may have caused the circuit breaker to overload. Circuit breakers are safety devices that are designed to trip when too much current is flowing. To reset the circuit breaker, find your electrical panel and look for the breaker facing away from all the others—that’s the one you want to pull back in line with the rest of your breakers. If it continues to happen, you may need to remove one or two appliances in order to prevent the circuit from breaking so often. If you continue experiencing problems, call Allspark Electric and have us take a look.
    Do you guarantee your work?
Yes. We have a one year warranty on our labor and for the materials we supply.
Do you charge by the hour or by the job?
We usually give you a bid before starting your electrical project. Please view how we do our pricing for more information.
Do you help with any necessary permitting?
All the time! We know all of the electrical codes for every city we work in. In many instances, we do every bit of the permit legwork and we work to collaborate with our customers and any other need-to-know contractors on the job along the way so everyone knows what is going on.
Why should I hire you instead of doing it myself?
It really depends on how much risk you’re willing to take. It also involves having the proper tools and how much time you want to spend. If you are not experienced, then there is risk of injury to you or your family and then there is also the risk of property damage.
What is the advantage of a licensed electrician (vs. my brother-in-law or my uncle who is good at this kind of stuff)?
When a licensed electrician is hired, the customer has recourse should anything go wrong. There are many people out there who aren’t licensed but probably have acceptable skills and standards. But, if there is a valid and active license involved, customers have a chance at some recovery should a project go wrong. For the record, we have never had a complaint against our electrical license since day 1.
Should I have surge protection on my home appliances?
Multiplex power outlets that provide surge protection can and do save appliances like televisions, sound systems and computers. Even if you have mainline protection against power surges, additional protection down the line helps assure nothing goes wrong in the face of potential disaster.
Why is my electrical outlet not working?
Electrical outlets can go out for a variety of reasons. An outlet may shut itself down when it detects a short or overheats. Another reason might be that you may see a brief flare or sparks before an outlet burns out. Troubleshoot the dead outlet by resetting its GFCI or circuit breaker or by seeing if nearby outlets are working or not. If your outlet still isn’t working, contact Allspark Electric to resolve the issue.
How can I tell if an electrical outlet isn't safe?
If your outlet doesn't work correctly, is damaged or discolored, delivers a shock when touched, or won’t hold the prongs of a plug, it should probably be replaced as soon as possible. If you have a two-pronged outlet, it may not be grounded properly and should also be replaced. Contact a Allspark Electric if you have any concerns about the safety of your electrical outlets or receptacles.
What kinds of outlet repairs and upgrades are available?
Common outlet repairs include adjusting connections and installing new receptacles. If the wiring that connects an outlet to a switch or breaker is faulty, extensive wiring repairs may be needed to fix the problem. Allspark Electric will be able to assess the condition of your wiring and outlets to determine the complexity of repairs. Depending on the location and application of your outlet, Allspark Electric may recommend upgrading to a GFCI outlet to prevent shocks in damp areas or make adjustments to your electrical panel to support the demands of your household.
